BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide a range of services to students, teachers, administrators, and other school personnel, families, community, and regional agencies which support the educational process. The intent of these services is to facilitate learning through psycho-educational evaluation, consultation services, behavior support services, counseling services, and promotion of mental health and wellness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provide comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations (e.g. cognitive abilities, adaptive skills and development, social/emotional development, mental health status, learning environments, aptitude for learning, and psychological processing) to determine all areas of eligibility for Special Education Services.
- Effectively communicate results of evaluation and promote understanding of the student’s functioning to provide recommendations for classroom placement, programs, services, goals, accommodations and modifications.
- Serve as a resource to teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, other professionals, and parents through a consultation service model and serve as a member of interdisciplinary teams to address the needs of at-risk students.
- Enhance the professional growth of teachers, staff, and parents through in-service sessions, consultation, and sharing of materials to promote greater understanding of Special Education services, disabilities, the role of School Psychologists, and other topics as needed.
- Counsels students on an individual basis (e.g. academics, social/emotional development, general vocational goals, problems related to learning and school adjustment, etc.).
- Participate with school and district teams to provide crisis management and counseling intervention.
- Collaborate with school staff and community agencies to provide services directed at improving psychological and physical health.
- Assist parents and students in accessing services through various community organizations.
- Share and demonstrate knowledge of behavioral intervention, positive discipline techniques, and effective practices with parents and school personnel.
- Expand professional skills, staying abreast of current educational issues and trends through professional development.
