University of Virginia Rheumatology fellowship program is ACGME-accredited two-year program. It provides us with a rich and vigorous clinical experience, in combination with research opportunities in the clinical and basic-science settings. The program is designed to develop rheumatologist with the knowledge base and skills to succeed wherever their career path leads them, whether in academic medicine or in private practice. I am expected to graduate in June 2017.
Creighton University Medical Center is a 200-bed hospital with a level-I Trauma Center. Duties involve all aspects of patient care, including duties under the on-call schedule, and participating in the educational and scholarly activities. Have assumed responsibility for teaching and supervising junior residents and medical students. Have learned to perform various procedures and confidently manage medical emergencies and care for patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting.
ChanRe Rheumatology and Immunology Center is a tertiary referral center providing international standard care to patients with Rheumatologic and Immunological disorders. It has a very busy outpatient service and also provides inpatient and emergency care. The patient population is diverse and spectrum of diseases remarkable. I attended outpatient clinics 6 days per week and had daily inpatient duties. I was also involved in supervising infusion clinics, teaching junior doctors and actively participating in all academic activities. I was part of the Center's on call/emergency service. I learned and performed various procedures including joint and soft tissue injections, joint aspirations, nerve blocks, muscle and skin biopsy, etc.
Kingston Public Hospital is recognized by the University of West Indies and General Medical Council of UK as a teaching institution. It is a tertiary referral center well knownfor its multidisciplinary teaching facility.
It serves a large, diverse African Caribbean population with a broad range of pathology. I was responsible for performing every aspect of care of inpatients, conducting two outpatient clinics per week, communicating effectively with members of the multidisciplinary team, teaching interns & students and participating actively in the educational events. This post trained me to confidently manage all the medical emergencies and care for patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
Spanish Town Hospital is a teaching hospital recognized by the University of West Indies and General Medical Council of UK. I rotated through the specialties of General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics (including Neonatal ICU), Orthopedics and Obstetrics and Gynecology. I was exposed to a diverse patient population with a wide variety of pathology. My duties involved providing all aspects of patient care at an intern level. I was involved in both inpatient and outpatient care. I was on call every third day. My experiences there helped me develop clinical, communicative and multidisciplinary team work skills while providing effective patient care. It also gave me an understanding of the Jamaican health care system.
My duties involved observing and learning how to diagnose, investigate and manage patients appropriately. I assisted in specialty clinics such as the arthritis clinic and was actively involved in promoting health education. I learned to prioritize work based on acuity of problems, request appropriate tests, recognize critically ill patients, maintain comprehensive health records, apply evidence-based strategies and to work as part of a team to provide safe, ethical, compassionate and effective patient care.
I rotated through the specialties of General Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. I was also posted to a Rural Primary Health Care Center.
My duties involved providing care at an intern level. I was involved in both inpatient and outpatient care. I was on call every fifth day. This experience helped me gain a wide exposure to diseases which are common in the Asian subcontinent and helped in establishing the foundation for my future career as a physician.
