Laboratory Response Network (LRN) is a worldwide network of biological and chemical laboratories collaborating for rapid response to national bioterrorism and Public Health events. As an architect for the LRN Results Messenger java, web-based application, the system was designed and implemented to deliver test results in real-time. As architect, provided three major innovations in the area of CDC developed software. The first innovation was a redundant communication channels for zero-downtime. The second innovation was an automatic-software-update mechanism for client applications which reduced deployments time frame from 2 months to 2 days. The third major innovation was reducing the 100MB PHINMS Secure Messaging system to a 5MB secure messaging library which could be embedded in the Results Messenger application.
