Motivated administration professional skilled at diplomatically engaging with supervisors, program leaders and staff members to actively address client and community concerns. Analytical thinker focused on researching policy and procedure to ensure agency alignment with policy.
My responsibilities at the GAO include responding to constituent/client complaints, researching policy and procedure, and continuously updating my knowledge of DHS programs and services. Professional oral and technical written communication with DHS management, legislative offices, DHS partners and providers are daily activities. I provide guidance to clients and their advocates on the roles and responsibilities of department services, personnel, and program areas. Active listening skills are a necessary component of this work as individuals who contact our office are often emotionally charged, feel an injustice has been done, or have mental health or cognitive issues that challenge their understanding of an often complex human services system.
Duties focused on permanency casework with Native American families and children (ICWA). For nearly 8 years, ICWA cases were my primary assignment. Daily duties were to ensure that children received services to address their physical, emotional, educational, developmental, and medical needs. For parents, I coordinated and connected them with helping professionals and services. A significant amount of energy went into forming positive working relationships with tribal communities. Preparing technical, fact-based reports and interacting with all of the legal parties to navigate the courtroom was also an important role. My ability to effectively articulate and stand by policy and procedure was extremely important. Excellent customer service was needed in order to ensure the work ran smoothly which included responding to clients and community professionals in a timely manner.
