Plan, organize, direct and supervise the installation, design, and implementation of a new hospital laboratory, including purchasing equipment and supplies, defining operations of the department, writing policies and procedures, setting up proficiency programs and quality assurance programs, performing normal range studies, linearity studies, parallel studies, building file definitions of the hospital computer system, applying to CLIA, Joint Commission, CAP and other licensure and regulatory organizations (Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital) Consistently review regulatory agency standards, rules and regulations to assure compliance in all aspects of laboratory processing, testing and resulting, assuring that the laboratory maintains approval status under CLIA Regulations and accreditation status under Joint Commission Standards.
Manage human resources by developing and maintaining position control, hiring, scheduling and providing leadership, training, competencies and evaluation of staff members Monitor the work environment, testing procedures, quality control and instrument logs to assure quality and compliance with regulatory agency requirements Integrate and coordinate with other departments to assure teamwork toward facility goals, assuring the prompt reporting of QI data, performance appraisals and other administrative reports.
Develop and manage the fiscal budget for the laboratory department, maintaining cost controls Review results, abnormal results, call logs and other management reports and statistical data for process improvement, quality improvement and quality assurance.
Participate in proficiency testing and analysis to assure success Compile statistical data for reporting, quality control, quality assurance and performance improvement, evaluating and modifying as needed.
Assist in all areas of laboratory testing as an ASCP certified Medical Technologist including blood banking, microbiology, hematology, chemistry, and immunology departments, performing, interpreting, and correlating clinical laboratory tests according to protocol in a high complex testing facility as defined by CLIA guidelines, ensuring accurate, reliable and prompt reporting of test results to aid in diagnosis and treatment Perform specialized collections such as bone marrow exams, drug screen collection, paternity test collection and other duties as assigned Utilize preventative maintenance, operation of instrumentation, information processing, and problem solving skills to assure daily operations and resolve clinical and instrument issues Management of inventory of supplies and equipment Maintain customer records through organization of test requests, samples, results, etc.
and help business office solve billing and insurance problems Research and coordinate vendor visits when new methods, procedures, equipment , products or software were needed; preparing cost comparison data when necessary Manage Point of Care Testing to assure accurate and reliable resulting as defined by regulatory standards Member of an LAP Inspection team, broadening views of laboratory management and organization and gaining further experience with CAP regulation standards Manage Laboratory and Hospital Information System Software Applications including providing technical support, testing software updates, validation of the Blood Bank software system and building and maintaining file edits, and training end-users of system applications and changes Analyze and prepare a high-level comprehensive optimization assessment of the current software system, consulting and suggesting improvements for future planning of software and hardware installation.
Liaison to other hospital departments for departmental software and hardware needs, wants, and wishes Project Manager for selected hospital projects providing leadership and initiative for software changes and their implementation Aim to maintain employee and customer satisfaction through effective communication and professionalism.
