Partnered with ANTHC to host and expand a successful Community Health Aide training sessions in Kotzebue, AK to gain trained and qualified CHA's (Community Health Aides) to provide the very much needed clinical and medical coverage for the regional hub. Currently, there are only two training centers in the State of Alaska which can provide CHA training. This included a few months of planning, meeting, and organizing the training sessions with multiple organizations and departments.
To provide quality patient care using a Standard Operating Procedure under the State of Alaska Community Health Aide Program.
Types of patient care included the following using a Community Health Aide Patient and Reference Manuals:
Acute care, chronic care, emergency care, and preventive care 5 days a week, 8 hours a day plus assigned on-call days for 24 hours or more.
Duties included collecting, documenting, and reporting medical history to higher level medical providers such as MD's and PA's. Or to document and collect medical history using Medical Standing Orders to provide medical care to patients.
Duties entailed administering acute, chronic, preventive, and emergency care medications, including oral, topical, injectable, rectal, and IV administered medications. Which also included daily, weekly, and monthly inventory of all types of administered medications.
Inventory of all administrative and clinical supplies.
Perform lab collection by blood draw and other bodily substances such as urine and stool samples. Package and handing of lab samples to be sent out via commercial air flight to regional hub.
Documentation for all of the above using Electronic Health Records with multiple programs including Cerner, Cobra, and a pharmacy program.
Management of the Community Health Aide Program, to include representing, advocating, and supporting the CHA's (Community Health Aide).
Data collection, record keeping, and to provide monthly reports to the Director of Community Health Services for the Maniilaq Association Board of Directors.
Data collection, approve and request, and record keeping of the program budget.
Participate in program wide meetings for all areas of the hospital departments to advocate and represent the program. Sat on multiple seats including Performance Improvement Committee and Quality Assurance Teams. Held monthly meetings with eleven Village Clinical Supervisor's to ensure a smooth operating Village Clinics. Areas of smooth operations included management of staffing concerns for Clinical and Administrative staff, maintenance of Village Clinic buildings, and ensure all Village Clinics are operating adequately under SOP and under Company Wide Policies and Procedures.
To perform or manage core competencies for all the regional village clinic supervisors. To perform Performance Reviews on all regional clinic supervisors and CHAP program Administrative Staff.
Manage clinical and administrative staff coverage on a daily basis.
Recruit, hire, and terminate employment for the CHAP Program. Hold quarterly meetings with the Human Resources Department. Perform disciplinary actions for the CHAP Program as needed.
To provide and coordinate CHA (Community Health Aide) training for new and returning Community Health Aide Trainees.
Provide basic training for CHA/T's including introduction into the Community Health Aide Program. Pre-screening training included core competencies for reading, writing, math, and vital signs.
To advocate and coordinate CHA training with the Community Health Aide Training Centers for the regional hub.
To keep data for the CHA's for the regional hub consisting of approximately 60+ CHA's.
