While working at Edgewood Country Club I was required to have great customer service skills, a positive attitude, and food and drink preparation skills. I worked in the halfway house by myself and had many responsibilities. I was responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and a sanitary work area. I had to provide great customer service and interact with the members of Edgewood Country club in a pleasant and professional manner. I also had to maintain accurate cash handling procedures at times and follow the rules and regulations of food and beverage services. Since I worked alone, I had to be able to handle situations under control and be able to work under pressure.
While nannying I provided complete care for the children in their home while their parents were at work. I looked after a boy and a girl and when I started they were 2 and 7 years old. I worked from 7am until 6pm when their parents came home from work. I was responsible for performing all tasks that correlate to the care of the children. I was obligated to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which the children can thrive and develop. I was responsible for many of the following tasks:
-Dressing children appropriate to the child's activities
-Planning meals for children
-Preparing meals and snacks for the children
-Supervising children's meals
-Cleaning and washing up after children's meals
-Scheduling and coordinating children's activities
-Transporting children to school and other activities
-Undertaking appropriate creative activities with the children
-Undertaking appropriate educational activities with the children
-Undertaking appropriate outdoor activities with the children
-Planning and supervising rest, bed and nap times
-Reading to and with the children
-Helping with homework
-Tidying children's bedrooms and play areas
-Reinforcing appropriate discipline for the children
-Implementing daily routines
-Doing light housework
While I worked in the Child Care Center at Lifetime Fitness I looked after the needs and development of children ages 3 months to 13 years old. We had a ratio of 1 worker to every 12 children, and 1 worker to every 4 infants. Along with other team members, I was responsible for looking after children while their parents were exercising. I provided children with a positive, safe and playful environment and contributed to their physical and emotional development. I was responsible for the safety and well-being of the children and was very attentive, patient and careful while caring for each child. Along with looking out for the children, I was responsible for keeping the daycare clean as well as answering calls and working with the computer at the front desk. I was also obligated to work well with my other team members in order to get our job done to the best of our ability.
While I worked in the Kids Room at Fitness 19 I looked after the needs and development of children of all ages. I worked in the Kids Room by myself and would have a maximum of about 6 children at a time. I was responsible for looking after the children while their parents were exercising. I provided all children with a positive, safe, and playful environment and contributed to their physical and emotional development. I was responsible for the safety and well-being of the children and was very attentive, patient and careful while caring for each child. Along with looking out for the children, I was responsible for keeping the kids room clean as well as making appointments with parents.
The public health education and health promotion program at CMU will help me acquire the knowledge and skills needed for a career in health education and promotion. I will have opportunities to gain valuable fieldwork experience working alongside CMU faculty and community professionals.
A minor in nutrition will strengthen the academic component of my coursework in the public health field and will contribute to helping me be a more effective practitioner.
