I have been a certified/licensed substance abuse counselor for approximately 10 years. I am experienced in assessments, treatment planning, group/individual counseling, chart auditing, and working closely with various community organizations. For the past 12 years, I have held positions that require timeliness, accuracy, and an ability to work not only independently but also to work well with others inside and outside of my organization. I am responsible for processing client applications for food stamps, medicaid, and/or cash assistance to determine eligibility of each area. This has required that I become proficient in the computer programs used by the department, adhering to state and federal policies. I validate a client's income, assets, and expenses in determining their eligibility. Documentation, timeliness, and accuracy are paramount to my job.
I started with this organization as an outpatient substance abuse counselor responsible for intakes, assessments, treatment planning, group/individual counseling, documentation, monthly reports. I was promoted to Clinical Supervisor overseeing the outpatient client as well as a specialized program called YORP in May of 2007. My duties included the above listed as well as the addition of supervision of five staff members, liaison between the outpatient program and the residential program, and working closely with organizations such as drug court, social services, attorneys, etc.
In this position, I was responsible for maintaining my own caseload to include timely and accurate documentation, chart auditing, referrals, scheduling, assessments, treatment planning, counseling, implementation of our youth program as well as our HIV program, and community outreach. I worked closely with local agencies in a holistic approach to client treatment.
I participated in a year long internship of case management w/ individuals with severe mental health issues. Course work included, but not limited to, mental health, interventions, spirituality, and alternative therapies.
I graduate with a minor in Sociology and graduated Cum Laude. I took behavioral health classes, addictions classes, and ethics, to name a few.
I graduated from this program Summa Cum Laude, and my concentration was in alcohol and chemical dependency courses. At that time I completed the NYS child abuse, neglect, & maltreatment mandated reporter training. I graduated with high honors.
