Started Hartford in September of 1983 in the office mailroom.
1985 - Promoted to Commercial Lines Service Representative in rating and preparing commercial lines insurance
policies.
1988 - Promoted to Commercial Lines Underwriting training program. (first non-college graduate to be accepted to
position)
1989 - graduated to Middle Market underwriting Position
1991 - promoted to Select Customer Small Commercial Underwriting position.
1993 - Promoted to San Antonio Select Customer Service Center Underwriter. Position was 1 of 3 positions created to
launch new division of Hartford for Commercial Lines. Department was started with 7 total employees in 1983. When I
retired in December of 2013, center had grown to over 600 employees.
1996 - Promoted to Trainer of Underwriting core program. Position was to develop and execute a 16 week training
program for new underwriting employees/candidates.
Position include screening of new applicants, interviewing applicants
creating a 16 week underwriting training program
Class involved the teaching of commercial property and casualty products and corresponding underwriting
guidelines
assisting in placing the underwriting trainees in positions within the company.
1998 - Promoted to Underwriting Supervisor of Pacific Northwest territory. Position involved managing a team of new and renewal insurance underwriters
Territorial responsibilities including agency appointments, closures, agency relationship building
Mentoring of Field Sales/Marketing Representatives including joint travel with field representatives and field
management staff
Educating staff and agency of new underwriting guidelines and products
performing joint agency forecasting with field and office underwriting staff
2000 to retirement - Moved to newly created Specialized Sales Underwriting Team - team developed to identify and
create new sales opportunities for directly quoting and selling Hartford Small Commercial Lines.

Position required becoming licensed in all states except Hawaii and Alaska
