  • Created and implemented a Food Closet for our ACT Members called Closet 53. Oversaw the daily Closet 53 operations for over a year.  Designed and created a unique pamphlet to assist our Member's access the community's resources in order to increase community resource utilization.
  • Combined Behavioral Health Care Coordination and Medical Health Care collaboration in advocating for appropriate Integrated Care for our Members.  Learned to utilize our Electronic Health Record (EHR) program, Next Gen, to upload and document daily encounters.  Also navigated and helped to facilitate the transfer of information from our EHR System TREAT to Next Gen.
Community Partners Integrated Healthcare - Criminal Justice Peer Support Specialist (DTAP)

  • Assisted and worked together with the Drug Treatment Alternative to Prison (DTAP) Members, in helping the participants obtain birth certificates, state ID's, clothes, groceries, appropriate dental hygiene, social security cards, monthly bus passes, eye glasses and providing encouragement. DTAP Court is a Specialty Court in Pima County encouraging an alternative to Prison through a specialized Probation and Treatment Team.
  • Responsible for maintaining a data entry spreadsheet, writing progress notes and updating our EHR System (TREAT) with service plans, crisis plans, mental health assessments and releases of information (ROI's). Managed a roster of about 15 participants within the confines of the budget we had to work with.
  • Operated in direct service with our Members and was available to our DTAP participants in providing positive redirection, built upon individual strengths and modeled appropriate social interaction skills. Communicated through phone calls and visits to ensure continuity of care both in and out of custody. Provided hope to our participants by sharing my own recovery journey, congratulating individual successes and building rapport.
Cafe 54 - Criminal Justice Peer Mentor

  • Assisted defendants and probationers participating in Superior Court's Mental Health Court to understand the requirements and procedures of Mental Health Court.  I provided education, support, and guidance to help defendants understand and navigate within the criminal justice and behavioral health systems.  I participated in the weekly Mental Health Court Team compliance meetings to assess participants' progress and identify what is needed to help them be successful in their probation and recovery.
  • I facilitated 4 different support and life skills groups, weekly, including a support group in the Pima County Adult Detention Center for over 5 years, equaling over 3,000 peer support groups completed in the community in 7 years.  
  • I was responsible for working with both the County Attorney's Office and the Public Defender's Office to relay information as to provide coordination of care, while fulfilling HIPPA's privacy regulations.  Collaborating with other Government agencies, coordinating services and assisted in developing community programs.
  • I was credited for paving a path and leading the way for other Peer Support Specialists with criminal backgrounds, to enter the Pima County Adult Detention Center to provide peer support, case management and coordination services to inmates.  Interacted effectively with our Community Agencies and Stakeholders through timely communication and transparency.
