I attended the Academy of Health Professions at TBT, all 4 years spent learning about healthcare and obtained my CNA and began working as a CNA my junior and senior year for OJT.
Upon hire at Community Care Center- Unit manager of skilled unit- assisted with all areas of managing an organized unit for our rehab residents, from assisting floor staff with daily responsibilities to improve our residents quality of care and improving customer service, attending meetings in accordance to facility policy, working with survey management and performing skills for survey team, assisting with developing plan of correction and assisted in education and in-service's for staff, assisting with facility regional support team for 5 star review and developing plan of correction for improvements, assisting with audits and education. April 2012 role of SDC, new hire orientation and education, in-service's and training for monthly required and additional in-service's as needed, assisted with survey management and plan of correction and audits and ongoing education. 2013 role of ADON with additional responsibilities as facility needs changed, from assisting unit managers, SDC, PCC training, wound care program, assist with all functions as DON requested, relias training, MDS backup, survey management, 5 star management. As the ADON , my responsibilities include but not limited to the rehab floor wound nurse, antibiotic steward and infection control nurse, aid and assist with all aspects of point click care management and training, survey management, perform wound care for survey team and assist with education as needed for improved compliance to floor staff, and DON designee as needed.
I started as LPN working the skilled floor with a full case load of clinically complicated residents, performed all duties of floor nurse such as managing CNA staff, med pass, wound care, trach care , IV management , skills for survey team and working with MD's to improve our residents quality of care and customer service. 2008- I assumed the role of Unit Manager as a temporary position per the request of our regional nurse consultant, then agreed to take the role full time per the request of the DON and nurse consultant, I then began my journey with nurse management, learning ACHA regulations and developing a strategy to run an efficient rehab floor, I was responsible for tracking wounds, restorative, event management and attending PPS meetings and all other tasks assigned, involved with new hires and training, staff training, management and coaching as needed.
As a new LPN I worked a long term care hall and developed my nursing practices and began my journey into this career I love. I was responsible for all floor nurse roles, learning to manage CNA and ancillary positions, provide quality care and perform all duties required including med pass, wound care, IV management. 2002 I was moved to a rehab floor and increased my care knowledge for providing customer service and improved my nursing skills, but I was eager for more skill and the resident population did not allow for growth at that time.
