Imaginative, Energetic and Supportive Voice Instructor with 17 years of experience. Successful at teaching vocal students, focusing on appropriate vocal repertoire, proper vocal technique and performance skills. Aiding them in audition preparation, and college searches. Specializing in Opera and Musical Theatre. I play piano well enough to accompany many of my students, and certainly well enough to teach them their repertoire.
Extensive knowledge of the vocal repertoire (both Musical Theatre and Operatic), years of experience as a performer (I am still a performing artist) with the ability and passion needed to work with students on all aspects of performance. Committed to individual student growth, with success in managing up to 30 students at a time. That would include students involved in an ensemble, such as the Opera-Theatre Workshop I created in 2005 and have cultivated into one of the most successful and highly sought-after courses in our department. Each semester we present a short opera (or excerpts) as well as excerpts from Broadway musicals.
For the past 16+ years I have been performing Nationally as a professional Barbra Streisand tribute artist. There is nothing I love more than performing and being able to open my students' eyes to the joys of being in front of an audience and giving them an unforgettable experience.
Over the years I have had numerous voice students who have gone on to win vocal competitions (such as NATS, on the local and national level), and have seen others begin to work on their careers both in the U.S. and abroad.
Probably what I'm most proud of is the growth of my Opera-Theatre Workshop, that just celebrated it's 16th year!! Hundreds of talented students have come through there and have continued on to successful careers.
I love what I do.

Adept at using several video and photo editing programs. We often use video in our Opera-Theatre Workshop performances and I create those. |
I've been maintaining a private voice studio for many years. I teach students from 17 to adult, in both the Classical and Musical Theatre genres. We focus on individual technical issues, an understanding of the repertoire, translation of songs that are in a foreign language, and detailed discussions of performance practices. I encourage them to work with a professional accompanist to begin to establish that very important relationship between artists.
With the arrival of COVID I have moved to the world of ZOOM lessons. While, admittedly, I am not fond of this method, I have found ways to make it work. It will never take the place of the "face to face" experience. There are still many things that can be accomplished.
This is the same as with my college students, we have persevered and in many ways discovered some new and exciting things.
