Professional Summary

I am excited about the possibility of joining the Gator family, and becoming a fellow gator with my sister, brother, and many other members of my family. Being eight years younger than my sister (Anne), and six years younger than my brother (Louis), I have had the luxury of learning from them. I have learned the values that UF honors (commitment, honesty, communication, humor, hospitality), and I have witnessed what it takes to succeed at a top tier institution like Florida. My past experiences have shaped me into a young woman who is resilient, committed, honest, and let’s face it, I wouldn’t be here today without my ability to find the positive in seemingly hopeless situations. Like many others in the world, I have experienced loss, sadness, and hopelessness, however, I had the blessing of having a family that is loving, compassionate, and hospitable. I have come a long way, maturing past the scared and injured girl I once was. Today, I enjoy running with my mom and sister, cooking for my family, baking for my father (pumpkin bread is his seasonal favorite), and trying my best to make my community a happier and brighter place. I hope to have the privilege of attending UF and contributing to making Florida a happier and brighter place. List and describe each job you’ve had, including dates of employment, job titles, and hour worked each week. The days, weeks, and months following my accident I felt helpless and purposeless. I lost my sport, my passion, a major part of my life in the blink of an eye. I decided to turn my life around, instead of focusing on what I lost, I decided to build something of my own. Over the past two years, I have started three businesses focused on serving my community and helping others. Dog Walking – I began a dog walking business in December 2018 that I am still running today. I started out with one client walking Zeek, a beautiful Phantom Goldendoodle, and grew the business organically over the past two years. Today, I walk twenty dogs a week, working 2-3 hours a day (approximately 14 – 21 hours a week). Tutoring – In January 2019, I began a tutoring business focused on helping middle school students with math and history. Today, I tutor three students twice a week for an hour. I work roughly six hours a week tutoring, some weeks I work longer if a student is preparing for a test. Mothers Helper – In May of 2019 I began a service assisting working mothers. Today, I assist one mother daily with her two children (Maddox and Camden). Monday through Friday, I assist with running errands, driving Maddox and Camden to afterschool activities, and watching them until their parents come home from work. Each week I spend roughly eight hours working with this family. List and describe your community service activities. Please include your role in the activity and level of responsibility. Free Tutoring – I began a tutoring service dedicated to assisting children whose parents could not afford a private help. One student, Kayla Ann, I have tutored for five years. I began tutoring Kayla when she was a third grader struggling to make passing grades. Her mother attended our church, and I offered to help her daughter. Today, Kayla makes all A’s and B’s and just started her freshman year of high school. COVID Errand Service – In March when quarantine began, I started a free service to help senior citizens and other high risk individuals with errands. I started by helping my grandparents and neighbors, however, as the pandemic continued my service quickly expanded. I began soliciting my friends to help, as the demand for our services continued to increase. Over the past months we have assisted dozens of people with grocery shopping, pharmacy runs, and other various errands.

Skills

In my view, success requires intrinsic motivation, determination, time management, and passion. My past experiences being a student athlete, starting three small businesses, and my work in the community have all taught me valuable life lessons that have prepared me for higher education. Being a successful student athlete requires time management, a skill I learned at a very young age. Starting a business and running a business while maintaining good grades required intrinsic motivation, determination, and passion. In college, your success is up to you. Professors do not take attendance, you don’t have your parents looking over your shoulder to ensure you completed your assignments, your success in college, and even broadly speaking in life boils down to you, your drive, your motivation, and your passion.
