1. Describe the skills or attributes you believe are necessary to be outstanding when working in student support services
When working with a youth population it is important to remember you are setting an example at all times. Therefore, in order to be an exceptional student supporter one should stay an active listener, have a strong work ethic and most importantly, be patient. While being a "good" listener is vital, it is also essential to ask questions and pick up on themes that you might want to investigate further at a later time. A strong work ethic is significant to exhibit within student support services because it is important to show the student they are worth your time, and more notably, that you value their time. If as leaders we do not display we care, how can we expect the same from our students? Lastly, patience simply makes almost everything better. It is important to be patient with all students who are learning new abilities because it is fact that each student may display different levels of understanding for different skills. A good teacher will possess this understanding, and will be willing to take the time to help those students who do not display as strong aptitudes as others.
2. How would you address a wide range of issues in your groups?
As someone who considers herself a problem solver, I most definitely will be able to find a solution to any issues I come in contact with.
For example, bullying is unfortunately a widespread issue in our culture that often does not get addressed. There are many reasons why students bully others such as insecurity or jealously, however none of them justify the action. Coaches set an example for how students on a team treat each other. Therefore, they should be very clear that they want to build an atmosphere of respect, support and team unity. They should also state openly that they would not tolerate players bullying each other or members of another team. As a coach it will be my responsibility to address and cease the negative behaviors should they so happen, however, I will make it clear that bullying will not be tolerated.
Regardless of the issue at hand, I assure I will notify the parents of the child and my administrator immediately if there is a problem.
Contact parent and hope they are able to understand the issues
3. List any additional information that will help in determining your professional qualifications for a position.
As a dependable and determined competitive cheerleader for 13+ years I believe I hold the potential to encourage, support and motivate a team I would be honored to be apart of. During my high school cheerleading career I worked along side my captains and coaches to plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions, camp excursions, and competition routines. I possess strong organizational and creative skills used many times to create handmade bows and accessories to save on financial cost throughout the season. As a coach, I will emphasize improvement, not just winning, as a sign of success. I will stress the importance of academics. I will communicate openly with my team and superiors to ensure no one is in the dark. Lastly, I will lead by example to indicate to my team a code of conduct that all will follow, including myself. I am a responsible, resilient and reliable individual who looks forward to working hands-on to train cheerleaders on how to work as a team in a positive way.
