I have been a science teacher for 22 years. The past twelve years I have taught integrated sciences as well as biology to high school freshman and sophomores. Teaching Advanced Placement Biology to seniors for ten years, I feel confident that I will be able to effectively teach biology to non-majors. I am always in good standing with my supervisors as I work hard and try to fulfill my duties beyond what is expected of me.
A variety of teaching techniques are used to encourage students to critically think in 9th and 10th grade science courses. Scientific process is a focus encouraging students to design their own experiments, execute the experiment and collect valid data that focuses on answering their question. Initial ideas are probed to uncover student misconceptions. Students are expected to make their thinking public and engage in discourse that explains how new information has changed their thinking or enhanced previous ideas.
