Pursuing a long time dream of being a highly successful poker player. Was on my way to the top until April 13th, 2011, when the United States Department of Justice stepped in and declared online poker to be illegal in the United States, a day that will live in infamy in the minds of many law abiding, tax paying poker players. Poker is not just a game for degenerates, it requires extremely quick thinking and analysis of hundreds of variables that can change from hand to hand and table to table. The reason I was unable to succeed in this field is really a matter of sample size. I was a highly successful online poker player, but the transition to traveling live play was difficult. The main reason is mathematical. I could see as many hands in one week playing online than I could see in 4-5 years of live tournament play. Because poker is a game of such natural variance, I could not generate a high enough sample size of hands in live play to overcome the statistical variance of the game.
Waited tables and was a bartender at several restaurants and bars. Examples include, Chili's (Houston West Loop and Lafayette Louisiana), Carabba's (I-10 Katy Texas and Lafayette Louisiana), Dad's Place (Hwy 6 Katy Texas).
This was a fantastic job that I enjoyed working even when I was putting in 60+ hours of poker per week. It allowed me time away from my computer to be social. I learned great communications skills while doing this job, as I had to deal with a wide array of people.
I attended ULL from the Fall 2000 until Fall of 2002 when I was forced to move to Houston due to an injury. I briefly returned in the Fall of 2007 for another semester, but was making too much money playing online poker to continue. I also attended last semester, Spring 2013, and have a 3.3 gpa currently. I'm already 30 years old and am ready to get in to the working world.
