  • Designed for the Steel Competition administered by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
  • Our mission was to create a bridge and pavilion in Barcelona, to connect the historic zone of the city with the modern Port Vell.
  • The competition guidelines emphasized the use of innovative steel design as the primary structural material, so my teammate and I used steel recycled shipping containers from the Barcelona port as the basis of our project.
  • The bridge emerged from a congested crossing, facing the famous Barcelona Head Sculpture in order to ease pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
  • Programs used: Rhino, Illustrator, Photoshop.
  • Elements produced: physical concept models & sketches, Rhino model, final presentation displayed in graphically structured architecture board.
  • Selected Architecture Firm Projects Bexar County Arenas West Gate- Saldana & Associates Redesigned the West Gate entrance and guardhouse for the Freeman Coliseum, the AT&T Center and the Bexar County Arenas.
  • The project consisted on redesigning the fencing and the guard booth that served as VIP entrance to San Antonio´s main public events.
  • I learned how to communicate professionally with the collaborating structural and geotechnical engineers.
  • I also developed persuasive skills during the meetings with my clients, who were the board members of the Bexar County.
  • Most important of all, I learned how to communicate effectively with my bosses and identify how they wanted things to be done.
  • I was working by myself on this project for a couple of months, then my boss got the permit to proceed with several more projects, so he asked me to hire more people.
  • This change enabled me to learn how to work by myself and manage my time wisely, then shift to coordinate between projects with the new employees.
  • Westside Clinic for Healthcare Services- Saldana & Associates Remodeled the interiors of a historic building to convert it into a clinic for healthcare services.
  • Learned how to manage a complex project with many collaborating architects and engineers.
  • The project was started by another architecture firm, then handed over to us to continue with the interior design.
  • Therefore, acute coordination played a big role on this project.
  • I was the intermediary between my firm and the collaborators, and distributed assignments to my coworkers by prioritizing responsibilities and considering their areas of expertise (both intern architects and intern interior designers worked in the firm).
  • Taking over an existing project required weekly meetings, daily decision-making over the phone, and negotiating deadlines, duties that gave me confidence to communicate effectively with other professionals.
