Work History
08/2017 to Current
Ph.D. Candidate Institute For Biomedical Sciences, GSU City, STATE,

Topic: Characterizing Zinc-regulated Gene Expression in the human pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae

Principal Investigator: Dr. Cynthia Nau Cornelissen, Director of Translational Immunology, GSU

Characterized gene expression of the Zinc-dependent Zur regulon of Neisseria gonorrhoeae under zinc excess and zinc-deplete conditions by RT-qPCR and identified promoter elements of target genes. Established binding affinity Kd of regulatory proteins to a promoter by means of a DNA-Protein Interaction ELISA method as opposed to a radioactive EMSA. Currently evaluating global gene expression profiles of all zinc-regulated genes in Neisseria gonorrhoeae by RNA Sequencing analysis.

02/2015 to 01/2017
Research Trainee Renal And Biomedical Dept, Harvard Medical School City, STATE,

Topic: Understanding fibrosis as related to kidney injury and the role of a recombinant bacterial peptide in the inhibition and possible reversal of fibrosis.

Principal Investigator: Dr. Venkata Sabbisetti, Instructor in Medicine, Harvard Medical School

Evaluated the role of biomarkers on fibrotic kidneys of mice and studied molecular mimicry of bacterial peptides in the setting of therapeutics for renal cell cancer

11/2013 to 11/2014
Undergraduate Student Researcher Dept. Of Pharmaceutical Technology, SASTRA City, STATE,

Topic: Developing Oro-dissolving systems of papaya extracts to enhance its therapeutic effects

Principal Investigator: Dr. D. Ramyadevi, Professor, SASTRA University

Developed an oro dissolving system (tablets and lozenges) from Carica papaya leaf extracts for the treatment of dengue, that resulted in a publication.

05/2013 to 07/2013
Summer Research Fellow Indian Academy Of Sciences Fellowship, CMC City, STATE,

Topic: Identifying the signature bacterial sequence in the blood of healthy individuals

Principal Investigator: Dr. Balamurugan Ramadass, Assistant professor, CMC

Analyzed bacterial DNA sequence differences between healthy individuals and HIV patients from the blood to establish a signature blood microbiome sequence.
