Assists crew members with repairs and the
overhauling of equipment and machinery.Performs general
vessel maintenance duties and keeps boat in ship shape condition. Maintains,
repairs, cleans, and paints the deck, hull, superstructure, and storage areas. Prepares
surfaces to be painted by removing old paint utilizing tools and methods of
choice or those assigned, including but not limited to sandblasters, grinders,
scrapers, sanders and chemicals, and applies prime and finish coats to house,
hull, doors, furniture and equipment utilizing brush, roller or spray equipment.Ensures that lines are properly tied to docks or floating
plant which tug is tending. Snubs and ties lines properly to minimize breakage
and to secure plant safely.
Cares for, renews, and splices rope and makes rope fenders. Performs light rigging when required.
Operates engines or winches controlling anchor or deck equipment including: attachments for cranes, hooks, chains, and slings on falls; uses standard signals to signal crane operator for placing loads when occasion demands; fastens and unfastens towing cables, hawsers, chains or slings to loads for lifting.Dismantles the main engine, auxiliary engine, pumps, compressors, generators and other machinery as required. Cleans, makes minor repairs, replaces parts and makes adjustments as directed.Keeps lines, tools, paint brushes, etc. clean and in proper places.
