I currently work as a Community Paramedic for Hennepin Healthcare. As a Community Paramedic we have many roles. The main role we have is reducing emergency room visits and subsequent admissions to the hospital for chronic illnesses. We help patients get re engaged with their primary care providers or establish care with a provider. We assist in medication education, set up and sometimes administer injectable medications. We will also do lab work for the clinics for those who struggle to make it into the clinic for their lab work. We also administer vaccinations to the same population. We do home safety surveys and provide physical assessments for providers. Since the start of Covid, we have teamed up with the research department at Hennepin Healthcare to obtain the blood work needed for those who were unable to go into the lab for this blood work. We also provide wound care in coordination with the wound clinic at Hennepin Healthcare.
Prior to becoming a Community Paramedic, I worked as a 911 Paramedic for 16 years. My responsibilities are described below.
