Overview:

Upon moving to Summit, MS a few years ago, I have enjoyed the pleasures of visiting, teaching, and sharing spiritual gifts with congregations across the Southeast. I have conducted weddings, funerals, and provided interim pastoral services for large congregations when asked.

Relevant Empowerment Church | Jackson, MSLead Pastor02/2015 - 08/2017

Overview:

The Lead Pastor at Relevant Empowerment Church provides vision and leadership to the staff and the church body of more than 400 members that aligns with the church's mission to “point people to life” and vision to “be a relevant church that makes and equips disciples of Jesus to impact our community and world.”

In conjunction with the Sr. Pastor, I was charged to collaboratively develop, nurture, and communicate the vision and ministry strategy for REC with the staff, leadership, and congregation. I worked with the staff to develop ministry strategies to ensure that yearly plans and goals support the church's vision and mission. I also partnered with the board of elders to develop vision and long-term plans for the staff and church.

Please find below a breakdown of responsibilities for this role.

General Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all day to day operations of REC including the nurturing and strategic reach out to all 400+ members weekly.
  • Oversee all area Pastors. Provide guidance and assistance to associate Pastors through Minister's Training Program.
  • Oversee and manage budget of $1.2M yearly. Ensuring the proper allocation to ministry areas, operational costs, and outreach.
  • Oversee the licensing and ordination of additional elders, ministers, and pastors.
  • Preach at least one Sunday in each month (and whenever Sr. Pastor is unavailable).
  • Prepare, teach, and oversee all Nightly Bible Study sessions including the oversight of Sunday School.

Leadership Development:

  • Take personal responsibility for teaching the Bible to promote the spiritual growth, health, and maturity of the church and the staff.
  • Partner closely with the elders to mutually encourage and develop one another as disciples of Christ and as effective leaders.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with the elder board to provide clear direction to the church and staff regarding vision, mission and values.

Communication:

  • Fulfill the calling as the primary preacher/teacher and vision caster as well as demonstrate other ministerial gifts so that REC is achieving its mission, vision, strategy, and structure.
  • Enthusiastically communicate the vision and values of REC with a sense of urgency.

Ministry Development:

  • Collaborate with the worship team for weekend program planning.
  • Evaluate worship services and other ministries regularly.
  • Disciple and develop leaders into the mission of Christ and to accomplish the mission of the church.
  • Be present and involved in the church's community and global outreach initiatives and help to expand impact and involvement in both.

Staff Development:

  • Care for the staff personally
  • Provide oversight for and leadership of the staff.
  • Foster the personal development and growth of the staff's gifts.
  • Lead staff meetings and team-building events.
  • Take responsibility for the recruiting and termination of staff on an as-needed basis per staff policies.

Congregational & Pastoral Care:

  • Actively demonstrate care for the congregation, making strategic touches at regular times.
  • Respond to pressing needs, concerns and requests from church members and the staff as needed daily.
  • Assist with hospital calls, crisis care, counseling and benevolence decisions as needed.
  • Conduct weddings and funerals as requested.

  • Collaborate and meet with area lead pastors as desired.
  • Maintain personal spiritual disciplines in order to be a trustworthy, godly leader setting an example for others to follow.

Overview:

The Youth Pastor is responsible for designing, coordinating and overseeing a comprehensive youth ministry program focused on building young disciples for Christ. Areas of focus include group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach. Serve as an engaging spiritual leader and role model with strong biblical background.

As Youth Pastor, I was afforded the opportunity to build a ministry area from the ground up. Starting with a Sunday School program that involved approx 15 children, I was able to grow the Youth Program/Department (The Anointed Youth Army) into an area that served over 175 kids weekly. Below you will find a brief overview of some of high-level responsibilities:

Brief Highlights of Responsibility:

  • Developed Youth Ministry programs that address the entire youth umbrella to include: The Anointed Youth Army (birth to 15 years old), Rooted Young Adult Ministry (16 years old to 19 years old), PHAT Church Campus Ministry (college students at Tougaloo, Rust, Belhaven, MS College, and Jackson State - hosted at Tougaloo College)
  • Guided staff and volunteers in administering education, youth, social action, fellowship and pastoral care ministry programs.
  • Directed weekly youth meetings, special group events and overnight excursions.
  • Worked with senior pastors to lead Sunday morning and mid-week worship services.
  • Worked with church leadership, parents and volunteers to establish clear goals and guidelines for church youth.

  • Managed ministry budget and documented all purchases.
  • Visited, counseled and prayed with church members to provide pastoral care.
Relevant Empowerment Church | Jackson, MSMinister of Education, Armor Bearer02/2010 - 07/2011

Overview:

As an introduction to ministry and to make way for proper training, I was licensed as a minister and placed on a one year training regiment. This regiment involved being the Armor Bearer for the Sr. Pastor as well as providing ministerial research, pastoral care, and developing education paths for the church body.

In addition to serving in these roles, I was also watched, trained, and groomed by other Pastors in preparation for Ordination. After the successful completion of my one year licensing/training regiment, I was presented to the Presbytery (a group of regional Pastors, Elders, and Apostles) for ordination. I was unanimously approved for ordination after showing a strong spiritual understanding of theological and doctrinal standards. Some highlights of my duties can be found below.
