When I first moved into the library, I was determined to create an environment of learning within the library. I wanted students to see the library as an extension of the classroom - a place to learn, explore, and acquire knowledge.


My experience in the classroom also helped me understand the importance of collaborating with the classroom teachers for student instruction. I wanted teachers to see in me a partner for preparation and instruction - an asset for the entire school.


Using technology in the library with students has been a primary goal for my library media program as I strive to equip students with 21st century technology skills. Being a resource for not only students, but also teachers and parents has always been a priority in order to build an infrastructure for learning.


And of course, no library program would be complete without promoting and motivating students to read. Through a variety of methods and programs in the library, the importance of creating a culture of readers within the school continues to be a leading focus. A love of reading equals lifelong learning which is one of the greatest gifts I can provide as an educator.
