Sound knowledge of the techniques and principles of professional nursing practice
functioning of the unit directing admissions, discharges, and general patient
flow. Assign nurses and
support staff to patient care while meeting the daily goals of the units, such as,
facilitating nurses involvement in rounds and ensuring staff receive meal breaks. Ensure that bedside
hand offs take place at the change of shift and that charge hand off is
completed. Maintain patient care
consistent with the missions value and operating principles of the department
of nursing and the hospital. Motivated staff in delivering effective and high quality care. Support the patient s
healthcare team as an advocate for the patient and their family. Participate in
hospital committees and task forces.
Respond to emergencies within the hospital setting. Round on all transfers from the ICU to ensure that the patient has not decline since transfer. Act as expert in IV assessment and obtainment. Provide teaching to bedside nurse. Provide expert assessment and interventions in CODE BLUE, acute MI, Stroke, respiratory distress, intubation's, and sepsis. Order and consult other medical services based on protocols established for the Rapid Response Team. Work with the House Administrator to keep flow through the hospital and to facilitate transfers of critically ill patients.
Experience in Level 1 center care, caring for critically injured trauma patients, including motor vehicle collisions, falls, gunshot wounds, among others. Care for patients with various neurological disorders with the emphasis of patients with strokes and aneurysms, vascular malformations, post angio therapy, post tpa (tissue plasminogen activator) treatment, Spinal Cord injuries & traumatic head injuries. Resuscitate and stabilize patients, manage IV drips and titration, Art Line, ventilators, wound care, medications and other appropriate nursing services. Assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated patient care and performed patient education in accordance to unit standards for adult and pediatric patient. Collaborated with professionals across the organization to formulate an integrated care plan. Developed and implemented new ICU visitation guidelines and policy. Championed changes in early mobility processes. Promoted team environment by effectively identifying needs of other staff and assisting them. Worked closely with families maintaining communication and support.
