HUD / EDF Climate Corps Fellow, 04/2017 - 08/2017
Outreach Indianapolis, IN,

HUD enlisted my services as its first fellow in a pilot partnership with EDF to improve the energy management practices of Taylor Housing Commission and two other multifamily housing providers (Allen Park and Melvindale Housing Commissions) by performing utility benchmarking in Wayne County, Michigan.

  • Specifically:.
  • I developed comprehensive benchmarking plans by gathering, analyzing and reconciling utility data, and outlining the processes & systems allowing proper benchmarking & continued monitoring of utility consumption;.
  • I enhanced the energy management practices of the housing institutions by developing Energy Star Portfolio Manager accounts that enabled Executive Directors to see how their building performance metrics performed better than the national median under similar building category and set energy and water management targets.
  • Allen Park Housing Commission turned out to be eligible to apply for Energy Star building certification where they can be the first in the whole State of Michigan;.
  • I conducted residential surveys and walk-through energy audits that supported the profiling of utility use distributions, allowing Property Managers and Executive Directors to prioritize specific loads to conserve;.
  • I identified energy efficiency, renewables, and water efficiency measures that can lead to potential annual savings of 454 MWh of electricity, 773 Million BTU of natural gas, and 996-kilo gallons of water over short-term implementation;.
  • I planned, developed, and facilitated a "Stakeholders Collaborative Initiative" for 29 PHAs and private housing providers in South East Michigan.
  • The event scaled up the impact of the HUD fellowship by bringing together relevant technical and financing resources from various government agencies with associated programs, financial institutions with innovative financing instruments, and energy solutions providers with technologies; and.
  • I presented to the board of Allen Park Housing Commission the Leo Paluch Apartment building's performance analysis, leveraging on the Energy Star Portfolio Manager's capability to report energy use intensity (EUI) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • The board became even more supportive and aggressive to access multiple sources of funding for building efficiency upgrades.
Business Analyst, 05/2016 - 09/2016
Accenture Contractor Jobs Whitehall, OH, USA

I developed a business and marketing plan with proposed sales training & programs for the new company's energy recovery ventilation and radiant heating systems applied to residential buildings, resulting in approximately 38% monthly average increase in sales equivalent to about $1 Million worth of additional revenue in three months time.

Regional Manager (Asia & Pacific), 08/2013 - 08/2015

I initiated a portfolio of renewable energy solutions for community developers applied to residential and commercial buildings. My involvement resulted in a signed contract worth PHP500 Million ($10 Million) worth of school development construction with solar PV applications and continued to develop the market for large-scale District Cooling Systems (DCS) resulting in projects worth approximately PHP960 Million ($19 Million).

Managing Director & COO, 11/2012 - 07/2013

I developed the energy services business portfolio of the company by preparing an energy audit team on building systems analysis on the technical side, and training the sales and marketing on the business development side, resulting in the company's first guaranteed savings EPC agreement worth approximately PHP120 Million ($2 Million) within six months.

Sustainable Energy Finance Consultant, 08/2011 - 08/2013

I partly influenced the Sustainable Energy Finance (SEF) program in the Philippines through the inception of ESCO and EPC concepts. The SEF program built up the resource capacity of local partner banks to manage a portfolio of financial instruments, resulting in the development of innovative energy efficiency and renewable energy (mostly solar and biomass) project financing with an aggregated loan portfolio reaching up to PHP 60 Billion ($1.2 Billion) as of 2013. In addition, I;.

  • validated energy efficiency technical feasibility reports submitted by IFC-contracted firms,
  • assisted local partner banks in conducting preliminary energy audits and feasibility reports,
  • assisted in the development of the residential "Green Mortgage Program" for a partner bank, and.
  • collaborated with private and public sectors on various policies, legislations and IRRs (Implementing Rules and Regulations) of the Philippine Renewable Energy law.

The SEF program in the Philippines became the model of IFC around the world.

Regional Coordinator / Senior Energy Efficiency Specialist, 02/2010 - 08/2011

I coordinated the development of the book, "World ESCO Outlook" that became available in 2013. Specifically, I;.

  • wrote the section on the current ESCO practices, energy efficiency and government policies and programs on climate change initiatives in the Philippines,
  • Conducted assessments and pre-feasibility studies on financing residential energy efficiency projects in Thailand and the Philippines for a German bank, and.
  • collaborated with ESCO specialists and experts in almost 60 countries around the world, including China, and outlined climate mitigation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy policies in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and South America.
Engineering Director, 01/2003 - 01/2010
  • I led an engineering team in performing investment-grade energy audits using instrumentations and data logging equipment.
  • I designed turn-key energy efficiency projects and presented our proposed innovative energy management solutions approach to owners and developers.
  • I supervised engineering designs, procurements, and constructions through 10-year performance-based contracting shared savings EPC financing.
  • My role resulted in securing a first of its kind in a market niche of District Cooling Systems with energy efficiency projects worth approximately PHP275 Million ($5.5 Million) in just two years time when the company was registered as a new subsidiary.
  • Our projects became the pivotal point of the ESCO industry in the Philippines.

Division Sales Manager (HVAC), 03/1998 - 07/2003
DANFOSS, INC City, STATE, Philippines

I was one of the pioneer employees of the newly set up DANFOSS subsidiary in the Philippines where I developed the market niche of VFDs applied to heating, ventilation, and air condition (HVAC) pumps and fans. Leveraging on my mechanical engineering skills, I was able to conduct training and orientations to engineering designers on VFD applications for HVAC systems enabling system designers to specify DANFOSS on VFD requirements at all times willingly. I also intensively promoted energy efficiency with the use of VFDs, to key stakeholders such as building owners, developers, project management companies, general contractors and trade allies like chiller, cooling tower, AHU, and building management system (BMS) suppliers. DANFOSS captured approximately 95% of the HVAC market share as a result of the thorough marketing campaign.

Specialist (Demand Side Management), 07/1993 - 02/1998

I am a pioneering energy efficiency staff of the DSM Office of the largest private electric utility in the Philippines. Applying integrated resource planning into a process, I designed energy management programs for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Specifically, the "Green Malls" program I initiated for shopping complexes became the essential reference for many retrofit projects when the ESCO industry started to develop a few years after.
