Randy has a muscular degenerative disease that left him with little mobility in his body. During my time working for the Smits, I would get Randy ready for the day. This overall task included bathing and dressing him, as well as assisting him in brushing his teeth, using the restroom, taking his morning medication, preparing and getting him into his motorized wheelchair. I went into this job unaware of how much energy it would take for Randy to start his day but learning this made my job more enjoyable and purpose-driven. The couple was so appreciative of my daily tasks and I learned a lot about the body during my time there.
I was able to make the Dean’s list at Hope College in 2018. This was a very prideful experience. When I received an email stating that I had made the Dean’s list, I was flooded with relief and pride as it was very evident that my hard work had paid off that semester. This was an occurrence I am very proud of and is a constant inspiration for me to make it again. I take my academics very seriously and am always looking forward to learning. However, I have found that as my college career progresses, my courses are becoming more difficult- which pushes me to work harder every day.
