Consul and Senior Trade CommissionerJan 2012 Consulate General of Canada － New England
As manager of Canada's Commercial Program in New England, I lead a team of 8, one CBS and 7 LES officers.
Upon my arrival, I re-energized this team of high-performing trade commissioners by engaging them in the development of groundbreaking initiatives.
These include the Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) in Boston; the Canadian Mentoring Service (CMS), a world-class mentoring program for our clients in Boston; the establishment of the CENE (Canadian Entrepreneurs in New England), an association gathering accomplished Canadians executives who wish to give back to Canada; and the "Fast Runners", a new innovative program addressing uniquely the needs of growth-stage companies.
The Commercial program in Boston is credited with impressive results, a steady and high-ratio of key performance indicators output per officers, coupled with an above average satisfaction rate for services received by clients.
Through the CTA only, our clients were able to raise more than US$55 million in Venture Capital since 2014.
The CTA and the Commercial team I lead in Boston have achieved international recognition from The International Business Innovation Association (InBIA) which awarded us the 2016 InBIA Accelerator Program of the Year.
Acting Consul GeneralSep 2010 to Jan 2011
I managed the commercial program in San Francisco and Palo Alto, including the supervision of two CBS, 8 LES officers, a couple of interns, with an annual operating budget fluctuating around $750k (including external funding).
I delivered a strategy with 3 pillars: 1) servicing the needs of Canadian startups accessing the Silicon Valley with an innovative Acceleration program; 2) cultivating the support of accomplished Canadian executives in the Silicon Valley; 3) engaging Canadian industry in emerging innovative sectors.
I conceived and launched the Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA), a unique service platform offering a large number of clients an immersion and access to resources found in key innovation hubs, such as the Silicon Valley: mentorship, venture capital, business talents, and entrepreneurial inspiration.
When I left San Francisco, the program included four "Canadian Technology Accelerators" in the Bay Area under my responsibility.
I also encouraged and supported the replication of this model in other markets (New York, India, London and Paris).
In 2013, the value of this initiative was acknowledged and funded by central agencies through a separate allocation.
It is credited with many successes in business growth and job creation.
As for the CENE in Boston, I drove the creation of the C100, an association of Canadians business executives in Silicon Valley who "give back" by mentoring Canadian entrepreneurs, in particular those selected to participate in the Consulate-managed CTA.
This much acclaimed initiative has been a first for Canada.
C100 investor members are credited for having invested more than 10% of all Venture Capital funding deployed in Canada since its establishment.
