As a COVID Screener for a health clinic, it was my job to make sure that every patient who entered the facility was safe and healthy. I asked them questions about if they were having any symptoms of COVID, whether or not they had traveled to any of the hot spots in the last 14 days, took their temperature, and asked them to wear a mask if they were not already wearing one. I also cleaned all the furniture in the lobby and any wheelchairs that were used by patients. This job taught me diligence, persistence, respectfulness, and patience.
I was strictly a Lifeguard for the summers of 2017 and 2018. These duties included cleaning the pool and pool decks, watching the waters for any distressed swimmers or other patrons in need, and providing First-Aid care to any civilian that may come into our office in need of help. I also learned about how to maintain the balance of the chemicals in our pool. Once the summer of 2019 came along, a co-worker and I were asked to step up and take the position of Swim Lesson Coordinators. This job included organizing swim lesson classes, which meant finding an instructor or two for each level and for each time that our pool provided swim lessons. We also needed to make sure the parents and kids were comfortable and happy with our performance in every aspect, which meant making sure we got them signed in on time, checking in on the lessons, and making sure that the instructors were well-versed and confident in their abilities to teach. Having this job, on top of still being a Lifeguard, provided it's challenges. However, I know that both of these job opportunities provided me with immense problem solving skills, alertness/awareness, and the ability to care for others in multiple ways.
