Founder of a unique New Mexico based boutique consulting firm that brings a track record of success in delivering advocacy and education campaigns, conducting grassroots outreach, and effectively arranging for the passage of legislation. Client list has included Health Action New Mexico and the New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry (ACI). In 2015, coordinated Dental Access Legislative Advocacy Day at the State Capitol bringing together over 250 advocates from across New Mexico to advocate on behalf of the Dental Therapist Licensure Bill and helped secure the passage of the bill through two House Committees and the House floor.
Led strategic consulting firm focused on the intersection of business strategy and public policy. Assisted companies, governments and non-profits in achieving their implementation strategies in a sustainable and meaningful way. Managed the City of Santa Fe's, "Velocity Project," an eight week entrepreneurial business accelerator program that provided over 24 start up companies with a dynamic and focused environment to help them pitch their companies, develop a robust 100 day business plan and tactical strategies to move their companies forward faster. Consulted on the development of the framework and initial implementation of CNM's STEMulus Center's new Community Business Accelerator.
Led newly formed governmental entity as first Executive Director. Provided strategic direction and policy expertise to local government coalition comprised of eight cities, counties and pueblo governments surrounding Los Alamos National Laboratory. Finalized branding, developed new interactive website and community list-serve. Ensured all legal and financial obligations of governmental entity were met including passage of an annual operating budget, creation of by-laws, election of officers, and compliance with the New Mexico Open Meetings Act. Forged strong regional partnerships and facilitated the Pueblo of Ohkay Owingeh as the first Pueblo Board Member. Helped secure an additional $40 million in FY'13 DOE re-programming funds for LANL site remediation and secured passage of two state legislative memorials advocating for the completion of clean up for LANL's Area G and for continued funding for all of New Mexico's National Laboratories.
Successfully implemented a Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) authorized under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in New Mexico within 90 days of the Act's passage. New Mexico was one of the first states in the country to provide insurance coverage under the Act. Managed all consumer appeals and represented NMMIP with related federal and state agencies. Wrote and revised memos, budgetary documents and press releases.
Areas of practice included personal injury and criminal defense litigation. Analyzed information and evaluated legal issues to determine and recommend a legal course of action. Researched legal precedent, investigated facts, and prepared legal documents.
Led Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP) a NASA funded technology transfer program that provided free technical assistance to small businesses across the United States. Managed all aspects of SATOP in western US, including budget, outreach, staff and partnerships with NASA contractors and statewide economic development organizations. Processed over 70 requests for technical assistance annually. Promoted SATOP with local, state and federal officials. Facilitated the North Central Regional Transit District's organizing committee. Coordinated bi-weekly meetings between tribal governments and New Mexico local municipalities to develop required documents for RTD certification. Facilitated formal acceptance of certification documents by ten local governments and Pueblos throughout Northern New Mexico, becoming the first transit district in New Mexico and a national model of Pueblo cooperation on regional transit planning.
Worked with national and local environmental, social equity, public health, business and transportation partners to draft and release transportation policy reform communications nationally. Managed simultaneous report releases and press conferences in over 37 states. Maintained personal media contacts at the national, regional and local level. Produced guidebook for activists on the federal transportation bill and related environmental laws. Represented STPP at a variety of speaking engagements, national symposiums, press conferences, workshops, and legislative committees. Built a successful diverse statewide transportation reform coalition in New Mexico to support a transportation legislative agenda that included the passage and implementation of over four critical transportation-reform related state legislative bills and memorials.
Performed all aspects of media communications for Senate Majority Leadership. Coordinated legislative press conferences, wrote press releases, talking points, floor speeches and legislative issue summaries for entire Senate Democratic delegation.
Handled all incoming correspondence related to the areas of business, telecommunications and Hispanic affairs. Served as Senator's representative to the Senate Democratic Working Group on Hispanic Affairs.
