A more pertinent question about internships, is "when should you include your internship on your resume." If you have a lot of work history, you don't need to take up valuable space with an internship you completed many years ago. However, if your experience was with a powerful player in the industry (such as the White House for a political analyst position,) you may want to leave it on the page.
Ultimately, you should treat your internship like any other job experience. If it was impressive enough to have a lot of positive impact, include the experience – no matter how short or long it was.
