If you had a pay center job and then took two years off, it's not impossible to get a software engineering job, but you need to be able to account for the time missing from your career trajectory. Furthermore, unless your pay center job required a lot of the same skills you need for software engineering, it is not going to be the most persuasive part of your resume.
Focus on your programming, development and troubleshooting experience. Incorporate any experience you have working with a team, and illustrate your strong communication skills. If you can prove you have the skill set to do the job, you increase your chances of getting it.
