Rewrite your resume in a way that show the gap to your advantage. There are two ways to go about this. The first is to write a functional resume rather than a chronological one. A functional resume focuses on your skills and qualifications and lists them first. Include your most significant accomplishments and achievements that are relevant to the job. Work history goes at the bottom, right before education.
The second way is to write a chronological resume and include the gap. This is a good idea if you did something you'd like to show off during that gap. Did you volunteer for Doctors Without Borders? Did you take civil engineering certification courses? Did you take maternity or paternity leave? Any of these examples and many others can earn a space on your resume in your work history section.

Depending on your career level, you may need to use a functional resume instead of a chronological resume. The cover letter may also be a good place to fill in relevant details to account for the gap, if you feel comfortable doing so.
If you're still early in your career, prepare for the possibility of starting over at or near entry level. If you have several years of experience, a two-year gap is less likely to hold you back, as long as your story about the gap is plausible and conveys that you can pick up where you left off.
If you explored a new type of role during the gap (for example, product marketing, sales, or consulting), be prepared to discuss the experience. Steer the conversation toward valuable skills you’ve picked up that ordinary developers wouldn’t have. Show how they'll benefit the employer as you return to a developer role.
