I did one year and completed my prerequisites. I was enrolled in for the next semester but instead volunteered to go on a deployment to afghanistan with the army in hopes to pay for my degree. i currently have not returned back to college bc of covid restrictions
AIT is advanced individual training done by the army after your basic training, its essentially your job in the army.
The electricians course i participated in was 8 weeks and included in class and hands on study of all interior electrical circuits, and of codes and regulations in the u.s and overseas. At the end of the course their is a painfully stressful hands on test to wire up a small house circuit in 56 hours, i completed my test as one of the fastest in my class at 32 hours. i have a great understanding of electrical because i've also had to adapt my skills when i was in iraq and afghanistan to include generator set up and repair, main power distribution, and NIPR/SIPR private networks.
While in high school i took a course on welding at my schools local career center. It was 3 hours of welding every week day for my senior year where i learned to weld acetylene, mig, stick, and tig. i was also the only student in my class that got to weld on carbon steel bc i aced my last tig weld tests on stainless. i also learned a bunch of other useful fabrication skills including grinding and plasma cutting. in addition i was in the afterschool robotics group.
