Work History
06/2015 to 12/2020
Insurance Agent Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company Charlotte, NC,
  • Sold farm and ranch, home and auto, and life insurance to existing Farm Bureau members while building my customer base with members of all ages, professions and backgrounds . Concentrated on providing tailored insurance products to meet customers changing needs .
  • Farm Bureau requires agents to make annual reviews with clients, either at their home or ranch, or in the county office. The majority of my members were in Kerr, Gillespie, Kendall, Bandera, Bexar, Real and Edwards counties.
  • Won Best Property and Casualty Agent in our District several times and met Farm Bureau requirements for sales and customer service.
10/2002 to 11/2014
Owner/Manager Especially Yours Florist City, STATE,
  • Managed day-to-day business operations, including accounting, finance, employee management, marketing and public relations.
  • Full service florist delivering locally - and world wide. Grew the existing house account customer base with the purchase of the business, always exceeding the previous year's sales.
  • Managed 5 to 7 full time designers and delivery people - with up to 15 to 20 total employees at holidays, large weddings and other events - winning Best Florist in the Kerrville Daily Times Best of Kerrville every year.
  • Not only had an extensive quantity of fresh flower arrangements ready at all times, I added specialty chocolates and wines to the individualized gourmet gift baskets we made, along with preserved flower arrangements, potted plants and European garden baskets.
  • Sold the business when approached by commercial realtor who brought the existing owner to the sale for the price I asked.
04/1987 to 01/2002
Co-Owner/Front of House Manager Joe's Jefferson Street Cafe City, STATE,

Started a full table service 96-seat restaurant in 100-year old Victorian house with spouse Joe Sanders, featuring Southern Style American food, with emphasis on fresh! Fresh fish and shrimp, Angus Beef, vegetables and salads. Jefferson Street Cafe was the first restaurant in Kerrville to serve truly fresh fish (Blackened Redfish, Green Redfish, Salmon Oscar) and the first to promote Texas wines by the glass, in addition to serving California, French and other wines.

  • Managed FOH operations to provide quality and standards to meet the BOH quality and standards my partner provided - coming together to exceed customers expectations.
  • Again we won Best All Around Restaurant, Best Fish, Best Desserts, etc in the Kerrville Daily Times Best of Kerrville awards year after year. We were also written up in the Houston Chronicle in 1988, and were included in the Top 10 Best Small Town Restaurants in Texas Monthly's first such category in 1990.
  • Engaged with customers on a daily basis to expand customer base and repeat business - and to build customer enthusiasm to try new wines. We were the first to sell better wines by the glass when no other restaurant in town was doing so - as well as promoting an ever growing and changing wine list.
  • Assisted wait staff in building menu expertise to answer customer questions and make personal recommendations, especially driving wine and homemade dessert sales.
  • Helped wait staff execute timely and efficient processes to drive first class guest service. Held daily mini meetings to achieve new goals.
  • Conducted weekly wine meetings with our staff (and invited other restaurants staffs) to learn in-depth about the wines to increase sales. Always had weekly or monthly wine sale contests with prizes awarded to top servers for by the glass and by the bottle sales. Every month, every year, exceeded the previous month and year sales.
  • Sold the restaurant after 15 years, when a local realtor approached us with an out-of-town offer to buy our business .
01/1987 to 05/1990
College Relations Officer Schreiner University City, STATE,
  • Working with Schreiner's Advancement Department under VP Karen Kilgore, College Relations liaised between Schreiner and three overlaping groups: alumni and donors, students and their parents (Parents Weekend and newsletters), and the local community (Hill Country College Fund), facilitating smooth communication and successfully achieving growing the student enrollment, Schreiner's endowment and making the local community aware of the value Schreiner provides to merit the community's assistance.
  • An example: during the first Alumni "Recall" Weekend I assisted in, my suggestion of the added event of a Hill Country Wine Tour (of the fledgling vineyards in Fredericksburg) was a great hit and increased Recall attendance in following years.
