I am a highly qualified Transportation Operations Supervisor. I have been in the School Transportation industry for 25 years. I have worked my way up from a School Bus Operator, to a School Bus Specialist (office worker), to the Transportation Route Planner (Supervisory), to my current position which is the Transportation Operations Supervisor.
In July of 2017, I was hired as the Transportation Operations Supervisor. Right after I was hired, the Director of Transportation, and the only other Supervisor, left unexpectedly. I was forced to keep the operations running smoothly with no experience in my new position. I made sure all the operations were taken care of, all the students routed for year round school, all the bus driver bids completed, everything that needed to be done was on my shoulders. I delegated the work to the specialists and route planner and we got everything completed. It was a hard time, but being thrown into a difficult situation and having to sink or swim, is profound. Being able to say that I did it, that I made sure thousands of students made it to their first day of school, all the drivers worked, all the buses were ready to go, everything was in compliance, and I had to ensure the department did everything as expected. This was a great accomplishment, considering I was in charge for the first time, and had not been trained and everyone was looking to me for guidance and direction. Looking back, I am proud of my team (we were very understaffed) and myself, we prevailed. Being "thrown into the fire," helped me learn how to manage, train, delegate, problem-solve, run different software programs while under stress and deadlines. All my years at SUSD prepared me for that year's school opening.
The transportation department is a distinctive type of occupation. It's a business, but it is also unique because you can cultivate meaningful relationships with staff, children, and many types of people. It has been fulfilling to me, both personally and professionally. I have grown as a person because of the relationships and opportunities that I have been afforded by working at Stockton Unified School District.
I pride myself on making sure things run efficiently and effectively. I also work to maintain a pleasant, happy work environment. The staff enjoy celebrating birthdays, catered lunches occasionally, or just stopping by each other's desk to see how one another are doing. Having an enjoyable work environment is necessary. Not only because you spend most of the day at work, but you get more productivity from happy employees.
I exhibit all the requirements you are looking for. I communicate effectively, budget, track and monitor, prepare documents, plan, manage, organize, supervise, direct, coordinate, assist, mentor, train, evaluate, and demonstrate many other qualities and functions.
I am currently enrolled at Modesto Junior College. Once I complete this class (my last class), I am going to transfer back to Delta College so I can graduate from Delta.
