Responsible for the safe and efficient movement of rail traffic across the BNSF railway. I worked closely with trains crews, trainmasters, yardmasters, maintenance of way employees, and chief dispatchers and superintendents. My time with BNSF allowed me to become comfortably familiar with the day-to-day operations of the railroad and what it takes to run it efficiently. I was expected to have a plan in place for my railroad and to execute that plan in a manner that allowed the meeting of deadlines and load times, while keeping in mind not to violate any crew hours of service agreements. My performance reviews were always excellent and any criticism was taken as a challenge to improve.
Responsible for the safe, orderly, and expeditious movement of air traffic. I am called on to make quick decisions to ensure the safety of the aircraft in my airspace and also to ensure that all missions are accomplished in a timely manner. In addition to my duties as an air traffic controller I have responsibilities as a section sergeant. I am in charge of a squad of soldiers. When tasked with a mission from higher command, I am expected to be able to motivate my soldiers to execute that mission safely and efficiently. Any setbacks are expected to be handled internally and only elevated if I exhaust my ability to handle the situation or if SOP dictates that the situation is above my pay-grade.
