  • Was assigned to the position of communications watch stander. In this position I was responsible for charting and logging locations of Coast Guard vessels and crew manifests.
  • Achieved the qualification of a Coast Guard boat crew member for three different classifications of Coast Guard vessels. Responsibilities included maintaining watch, proficiency in first aid, line handling, and surface swimming. As a boat crew member I was also responsible for vessel navigation as a helmsman and was trained for emergency response search and rescue missions. My final responsibility was damage control that taught me skills in analyzing and neutralizing threats such as fire, flooding, crew safety and mechanical issues.
  • Became qualified as a Coast Guard law enforcement boarding team member.
