At Vision, I teach two, three and four year old girls, ballet and jazz. I have been a dancer since I was a toddler and I can still remember some of my earliest mentors. Taking on the role of teaching brand new dancers is such an honor. More than anything, this responsibility has taught me how to manage stress. Being in charge of ten little two year olds is not an easy task and it often causes me a lot of anxiety. But, I now know how to prior plan and take control of chaotic situations in order to prevent stress. This job is so important to me because, I have a plan to work as a pediatric oncology nurse in the future. Working with young children will give me the experience and skills that will help me achieve my goal.
At Ypsilon, I work closely with clients and their entourages, to style them for various formal events. In all reality, my job is to make women feel beautiful everyday. I've been able to learn valuable communication skills while working at Ypsilon. I can interpret non verbal communication, which has helped me to evaluate my clients thoughts and feelings. I have improved my ability to carry on conversations with complete strangers. Speaking to people I do not know, no longer phases me. In fact, I've been able to build lasting friendships with so many of my clients. Many of my appointments are difficult, It can be hard to make everyone in a client's party happy. However, this has taught me how to be a problem solver and how to remain optimistic when work gets tough. Ypsilon is a very professional, unique and fun environment, it has increased my ability to balance work and fun. I am surrounded by some of the most successful and supportive women I have ever met. I am a part of such an uplifting team and it has changed me for the better.
I became an assistant manager at Bahama Bucks when I turned seventeen. Some of my responsibilities were, delegating tasks for my crew, handling customer conflicts, answering customer's questions and training and guiding new employees. This was the most challenging position I have had. I was younger and had worked for the company for less time than many of my co workers. As a result of this, It was not easy to gain any respect from my crew and I often had to do most of the work by myself. I increased my work ethic and my ability to be patient when working with difficult personalities. This experience taught me how to do hard things and I saw the value that comes from not quitting or giving up when things get hard.
I had the opportunity to be an ambassador for American Heritage. I was responsible for planning and helping to carry out school activities, participating in service projects and helping students to feel accepted and comfortable at our school. My experiences in this position made me love service and helped me get to know many students more personally. I was able to participate in an honor flight, food drives, donations and deliveries for refugees, activities for those in Alzheimers and care centers, secret Santas for families in need, activities and donations for those who were grieving loss of a family member and so many more incredible service opportunities.
