Performed all of the duties of a pastor including: weekly teaching and preaching, oversight of all budget and fiscal items with monthly reporting to church council, oversight of facilities, keeping of membership and baptism records, monthly staff meetings with paid and volunteer staff, direction and goal setting for ministry team and congregation, one-to-one meetings as needed for leading individuals and small groups.
All responsibilities as noted above. Within the first two years of assuming pastoral role at Wood Street Chapel, I was able to manage upgrades to key systems and pay off a first and second mortgage of approximately $100,000 and keep the church in a positive financial position for my 16 years of service.
Oversight of all ministry to children, youth and young adults from newborn through college age. During the last several years at Faith Center, my ministry team completely remodeled our children, youth and college facilities and brought in the U-Turn program for junior high and high school students. We also joined a large ministry/missions team in the summer of 1997 and traveled to Romania, Hungary, Austria and Finland. Most ministry activity consisted of evangelism through drama on the streets of Oradea, Romania, but I did some personal ministry in Zahony, Hungary, for several days apart from the rest of the group.
Observed and assessed student performance and kept thorough records of progress. Typical number of students: 23-31. Grades taught: 2-6. Encouraged students to persevere with challenging tasks. Set and communicated ground rules for the classroom based on respect and personal responsibility. Scheduled and held parent-teacher conferences to keep parents up-to-date on children's academic performance. Collaborated with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning and student engagement. Employed a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction textual materials to encourage students to read independently. Encouraged parents to take an active role in their child's education. Taught students in various stages of cognitive, linguistic, social and emotional development.
Three year program of Masters Degree-level math training for elementary and junior high school educators.
Completed all course work leading to a Masters Degree in Social Science. Did not complete Masters project as I didn't feel it would significantly enhance my professional standing as an elementary teacher at Cutten School. Our cohort in the Teaching American History program contributed to Founding Myths by Ray Raphael, copyright 2004.
