Responsible for the safe and timely transport of Greene County Public School children to and from school. Other aspects of the position involve daily safety checks of the vehicle before and after transport, monitoring fuel consumption, attending yearly in-service classes to insure knowledge of most recent procedures involving safe transport. Accompany and transport students and staff on an as-needed basis for field trips and sporting events. Report and maintain control and discipline at all time. Represent Greene County Public Schools in a professional and respectable manner.
As Transportation Director for Greene County Public Schools, my daily responsibilities involve a multitude of task such as, being on-call twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Responsibilities consist for the twelve month operational needs of the transportation department possess a commercial driver's license in good standing; possess a CDL driver trainer certificate. Develop and supervise all routes for Greene County Public Schools as well as out of districts routes. Develop and supervise school bus stops, schedules and pupil assignment to school buses for an effective, efficient and safe transportation system. Provide pre-service and in-service training on all transportation issues for transportation personnel. Arrange and coordinate annual inspection of all buses per regulation of the Virginia Department of Education. Supervise and arrange repair and maintenance of all school vehicles. Coordinate assignments of substitute drivers and assistants, regular and special needs route drivers, field trips, athletic events, etc. Administer Safe Driving Award Program. Coordinate bus evacuation practices per Virginia Code. Coordinate transportation safety programs for all schools. Prepare yearly transportation budget. Develop and administer the transportation of all summer programs. Supervision of transportation staff, approximately 75 to 80 employees. Coordinate an effective working relationship with administrators, transportation staff, school personnel, parents and students. Recruit and interview applicants for bus drivers, car driver and assistant positions. Ensure that all laws, regulations and policies as related to transportation are current and up to date. Conduct bus driver performance evaluations and voice recommendations regarding continuing employment or training. Supervise and maintain records and reports as required by the Superintendent, the School Board and Virginia Department of Education. Review, maintain and submit to DOE accident reports and history for the transportation department. Schedule and supervise the drug and alcohol program. Monitor road and weather conditions at all times. Offer input to Superintendent to the changing schedule of school, such as closing, opening on a delay or early release. Working with surrounding counties on school closing conditions. Supervise and route transportation for preschool program as well as all special needs routing. Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable for transportation operations for Greene County Public Schools. Supervise and serve as dispatcher to transportation personnel in a professional and timely manner by two way radio. Obtain school bus specification and bids for the purchasing of school buses. As well as obtain specification and bids for the purchasing of school bus camera and two way radio's. Supervise operation of camera's and two way radios. Develop and maintain transportation employee handbook. Any and all responsibilities deemed necessary by my immediate supervisor. Any and all responsibilities deemed necessary to operate a safe, effective, efficient transportation system. As a Para-Educator for the pre-kindergarten age range, my daily responsibilities involve assisting the classroom teacher. Assisting involves co-administering the lesson plan designed by the teacher, assisting with any and all of the numerous operations and care needs involved in successfully managing a classroom of preschool aged children at all times, other responsibilities include taking daily attendance, monitoring the count and safety of the children at all times, tallying lunch orders, assisting with lunch duties, making copies, typing letters to parents, communicating with parents, monitor recess, arrange and create task material, read aloud to the children, assist in educational assignments, accompany children to related arts courses held outside the classroom, create and maintain "take home" folder for each child documenting a discipline chart, arranging cots for nap-time and monitoring the children during naps, assist child with bathroom needs, assist in overall safeguard and progression of academics for each child.
