Papa John's was my first place of employment. This high-paced and popular location, at the young age of 15, taught me a lot of valuable life-skills quickly. I learned a lot about time management, priorities, and punctuality. While mastering all stations and jobs in the store, I also learned to constructively receive instruction/guidance from managers and develop quality customer relationships at the point of sale.
Duties Included:
My experience at Marco's Pizza began upon learning of the restaurant management positions and growth potential within the new franchise. As soon as legally allowed, at age 18, I became a manager at the 71st and Georgetown Rd location in Indianapolis. My son was born the year before, therefore I desired more responsibility, money, and hours. As a young father, I had to adapt to juggling at-home responsibilities and much more obligations in the work environment. The location change to an Indianapolis area provided an opportunity to expand upon my customer relations skills in a new demographic.
Duties Included:
In 2013, my father decided to purchase a pizza restaurant in Brownsburg. I relieved myself of my duties at Marco's to assist him. While enrolled at IUPUI majoring in Psychology and caring for my young son at home, we began the process of building a business from the ground up. The process was grueling and sales were low at first. Shortcuts were taken and we often borrowed from Peter to pay Paul so to speak. It is said that ~90% of small business fail within the first two years, but the "fruits" of our labor left us still standing. I then decided to leave IUPUI to further assist in the journey. Shortly after, we were featured on the News in a segment highlighting local businesses. Sales exploded. We achieved record setting sales that grew exponentially through the next five years. Since our opening, we have never experienced a non-record setting sales year. Tangible profits became a reality as we amassed over $1,100,000 in gross sales in 2019. The blood, sweat, and tears could fill the Great Lakes and the experience was nothing short of remarkable. With that being said, it is time for the next chapter in my life.
