Graduate Research Assistant The New School New York, NY,

Kenneth A. Taylor Lab, Institute of Molecular Biophysics

Cryo-electron Tomography on frozen-hydrated Z-discs Isolated from flight muscle of Lethocerus indicus. This project uses cryoelectron tomography to determine the 3-D structure of the Z-disks isolated from the flight muscles of the large water bug, L. indicus. Our lab uses L. indicusas a model system for structural studies of striated muscle. This would be just the second Z-disk isolated from muscle and imaged by cryoET and subtomogram averaging.

  • Solved the never-before-seen structure of Z-disc Isolayed from Lethocerus indicus. This structure was very difficult to resolve due to the limitations in the tomography softwares.
  • In hanced skills in sample prepration in wet lab and making grids for negative staining and cryo-electron microscopy.
  • Utilized Titan Krios transmission electron microscope to take data for members of the group

High resolution Single Particle analysis of of Drosophila myosin thick filaments at sub-nanometer resolution, by leveraging data analysis and programming skills. Utilize Titan Krios transmission electron microscope to take data for my project. Coordinate 3 different projects in signle particle analysis, one personal project and two other collaborative projects with our group members

  • Improved the structure of Drosophila thick filaments to the resolution of 4.7 A. This structure was very difficult to improve due to the gigantic complex structure which limites the untilization of different softwares in single-particle method.
  • Revealed new and never-before seen non-myosin proteins in the structure.

Facility Manager Continental Troy, MI,

Biological Science Imaging Resource | The SouthEastern Consortium for Microscopy of MacroMolecular Machines (SECM^4)

Trouble Shooting and Re-opening shutdown microscope with a different detector. Operate the microscope in single-particle, pre-processing, ensure complete transfer of data, and shipping hard drives to SECM4 users. Establish communication with DirectElectron, ThermoFisher, Gatan companies for maintaining and servicing different parts of the microscope.

  • Re-opened a shutdown facility successfully while coordinating with three different companies with a new detector (DE64).
  • Prioritized and performed routine maintenance to keep facility in good shape.
  • Held oversight of equipment maintenance, repairs and installations scheduling and work performed.
  • Called in equipment repair services and maintained facility supplies by ordering new inventory.
  • Mentored the next person to replace manager position and oversee other staff members.
08/2018 to 12/2020
Teaching Assistant Gerard Academy Fargo, ND,

Taught 4 semesters of Biology Labratory. Thought Biology Lab independently with satisfactory reviews from students and professors. Supported instructional activities, learner engagement, classroom management, and behavior modification goals. Followed university policies, teacher guidelines, and student IEPs to ensure student safety and achievement of learning outcomes.

  • Kept students safe inside and outside classrooms by proactively monitoring behaviors and tracking student movements, safety hazards, and visitors.
  • Used lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods to present subject matter to students under direction and guidance of teachers.
