In the header put your name and contact information. For the professional summary write four to six lines that sum up who you are and what you do. The qualifications section should have a bulleted list of seven to eight skills that fit the job description. Write your work history in reverse chronological order and include major accomplishments and responsibilities. For your education section list your degrees in reverse chronological order.
Try comparing your resume to a resume sample. You can see what you are missing and where you need to improve. How does your professional summary compare to the example? A resume sample also demonstrates proper formatting for a professional document.
Leave out any personal information that might cause a bias against you, such as political party, religion, marital status, and age. Also strive to keep your skills and employment history relevant to the job for which you are currently applying. For example, you can exclude your time as a professional beer pong player.
