To keep your resume brief and on point, tailor your work history and skills to the position for which you are applying. For example, if you are a musician with teaching, performing, and theater experience and are now applying for a theater gig, you can leave the teaching work history off the resume as it is not relevant to the theater job. You should also limit your work experience to the past 15 years unless you did something exceptional prior to that.
It's always a good idea to take a look at some resume samples for help. By studying their example, you can learn what to leave in, what to take out, and how to organize your document in a tidy manner. When it comes to resumes, brevity is a virtue and will leave a good impression.
