Being an SPD tech, requires that I gain the proper knowledge to test the integrity of surgical instruments for patient safety, while also knowing medical terminology, surgical procedures, and critical time management. My job is a very conductive part of the surgery process, all surgeries begin and end with my department. I pull all surgery cases guaranteeing each item needed is on the cart and properly tested, sterilized, and packaged. I run needed instruments into operating rooms while maintaining productivity on the department floor. After surgeries are finished I fully gown up and furthermore clean and inspect used items in the decontamination area.
It is sole my job to regulate items that are up to date, sterile, working appropriately, and packaged efficiently. I have to be on my toes while multitasking the rest of my duties. Multitasking is a huge part of this job, as well as time management.
Working in the nutrition department of the hospital gave me the tools I needed the understand the dynamics of the functions and services we provide within the hospital. It was my sole responsibility to ensure that each patient was greeted friendly and formally, guarantee their diet was accurately matched to accommodate their health issues/ concerns, and initiated possible reslolvements or replacements to each patients concern. I was to prepare their meals in a timely manner, in the most productive and food and hygiene safe way, and be sure it was delivered at a correct eating temperature.
While attending school I worked two jobs after my classes, one being fast food and one being a cashier at a lumber store. I maintained a 3.5 GPA throughout school and managed a leadership class for lower classman as well. I took part in Skills USA every year with my shop class, doing volunteer work around the town and running car shows. I assisted in the special needs classroom my junior and senior year, as well as became a teachers aide for those said years.
