If i were to have told my self in High School, I was going to be working in the dental field I wouldn't have believed it. Graduating from school, i choose to take a year off and decide what i wanted to do in the mean time Wendy's promoted to to a great position, I thought for a 18 year old. However as time went on, the struggle of working insane hours, and dealing with the bad parts in the restaurant industry, I knew i wanted a change, a career that i could see myself doing long term. When i started as a patient service representative i felt i had learned a whole different set of skills from my previous job. Talking on the phone was a new skill, using the computer more often, and dealing with insurances and medical records. These were all great skills to have developed, although i found i didn't like sitting behind a desk. At First Advantage, i was able to receive the opportunity to cross train as an assistant. Starting with the Orthodontist led me to stay in that role for about 4 years. The best part was building bonds with patients. All of the skills i had learned, being more involved. It was the best opportunity i could have gotten. Over the past 5 years i had also gotten to assist an Oral Surgeon and General Dentist. I came to realize, I loved Oral Surgery, and i did not enjoy General Assisting. Recently I got placed with the Periodontist. I immediately knew this is where i want to be from here on out. The procedures, watching patients oral health improve over a period of time, and the way it flows has just worked with me.
