Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
As a Senior Officer the duties involved in my daily performance required me to have the ability to perform duties of all correctional posts. I performed duties as a cell block officer, special housing unit officer, control special housing unit officer, compound officer, tower officer, control center officer, count clerk officer, movement control officer, visiting room officer, perimeter patrol officer, also received training for the Receiving and Discharging officer and worked alongside with Case Managers/Unit Mangers/SIS Officers. I have supervised inmates in many situations such as in their living units, work settings, during yard, activity times, their health, and welfare. I have enforced rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct, to ensure judicial sanctions are carried out and inmates remain in custody. I have worked irregular hours, unusual shifts, Sundays, holidays and unexpected overtime. I have reviewed post orders and recommended change to my supervisor regarding each job assignment. I have prepared incident and disciplinary reports. I have convinced inmates to continue to work under normal working conditions. I have physically disarmed a person who had assaulted another individual. I have taken the appropriate action in calling for assistance/evacuating individuals during an emergency situation. I have conducted official counts, census counts, daily security, and sanitation inspections of all cells and common areas in the units. I have been assigned to supervise inmates in the Special Housing Unit, where I processed in inmates, issued clothing, escorted inmates to and from review boards, other cells in the unit and passed out meals. I have been assigned to Perimeter Patrol, where I have been armed with a shotgun and a 9mm handgun and monitored the entire facility to prevent escapes, perform fence checks, prevent any unauthorized personnel to enter the institution, and monitor all entrance and exit points. I have been assigned to Control Center, where I have issued out keys, restraints, and radios to staff, supervised entrance and exit points, monitored video surveillance of the institution, processed in/out inmates. I was responsible for the inmate population count. I conducted out counts and took count of the institution. These are other numerous tasks I have conducted as a Senior Officer and as a member of the unit team: On a continuous basis I’m progressively responsible for the principles, practices, knowledge, diagnostic counseling, treatment plan emphasis, and the treatment of persons in a rehabilitative need. I assisted in the collection, verification, and analysis of information in the preparation of social histories reflecting the nature and extent of problematic behavior, current social problems, and causative factors. I assisted in determining inmate needs and program goals for individuals and monitoring the progress of the programs. I helped the offender view problems objectively and to deal with them realistically. I acted as a liaison capacity with other units and institutional employees on matters concerning inmate behavior. I effectively allocated my time in prioritizing multiple projects and utilized and created database to track and prioritize work. I chaired in a Unit Disciplinary Committee Hearing and also chaired in a Discipline Hearing with the Discipline Hearing Officer and translated the hearings from Spanish to English. I contributed case information, assisted senior staff, and conveyed technical information during formal meetings and discussions with the Discipline Hearing officer ,Lieutenant's, SIS officers. I assisted SIS Officers in translating numerous hearings and documents from Spanish to English to help solve institution disturbances such as gang retaliation and assaults. I have completed certifications in Central Inmate Monitoring System(CIMS), Unit Disciplinary Committee(UDC), and Inmate Disciplinary and received Special Act Award. I have identified and initiated corrective action as a result of researching a policy. I provided training to other staff on institution policy and procedures. I participated in the institution Admission and Orientation program for inmates. I detected a concealed weapon during search of person, I differentiated legal mail and processed appropriately, I have conducted physical processing and identification, I have safeguarded and disbursed personal property, and I have intercepted inappropriate mail, such as mail from one inmate to another inmate. Per policy, I have directed inmate orderlies out of Receiving & Discharge (R&D) during bus/airlift movement, I have fingerprinted inmates who offered little cooperation, and I have identified potentially problem inmate and retrieved PD-15, Inmate Disciplinary Data to review discipline data. I have keyed inmate "ins and outs", I have keyed payroll for inmate work cadre, I have entered furlough information into SENTRY.
