As a Behavioral Therapy Technician at Crystal Run Village, it is essential that I use proper communication skills to communicate therapeutic approaches to the individuals I work with, their family members, and the staff that work in their homes. I oversee behavioral needs in six group homes, responding to emergency calls, texts, e-mails in an in-person manner, as well as ensuring appropriate documentation is completed. I am responsible for maintaining consents (from family and/or consenting committees within the agency) for restrictive techniques, medications, and supports. I am trained in SCIP-R techniques, as well as in a plethora of supportive strategies for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as a variety of mental health challenges. I assist individuals in fully understanding their own behaviors, teaching them methods of how to change their responses to unfavorable situations, and assisting individuals in developing effective coping skills and replacement behaviors. I utilize Functional Behavioral Analysis to develop Behavior Support Plans, which I then train direct support staff to implement in order to provide effective Behavioral Support in the group home setting. I implement behavioral data tracking in each of my homes, which I review during each home visit. Behavioral data is then analyzed and summarized prior to psychiatric appointments, team meetings, monthly reviews, semi-annual reviews, and annual reviews as a means to review any difficulties and/or progress within my caseload.
