Summary

I am looking for a software engineering/development position, I am motivated by creating software that users find useful and become more productive. I have been doing this for well over 30 years. I am better than the average developer bear. I like to work hard and play hard and as i stated like to develop software that people choose to use and as a bonus purchase it. The former motivates me if I created it or I am on a team. My Salary requirements are reasonable by any measure. In Exchange. I wish for mid-level position. My ego, i check at my home and will subordinate to a youngster if required, I get along with everybody who is honest and loyal (not to me but to the employer being successful). The risk is low and the salary wont break any budget and I like to work. I can create and or build anything given enough time and money. Thank you for considering me for a Software Developer position.

Experience
01/2014 to 03/2020 Software Engineer Dematic Corp. | Southfield, MI,

Developed an Interface to Adobe's IDML file format, which is a compressed multi-file archive of xml text files.

Using the interface was so easy a Cave-Man could use it(my marketing phrase). Unfortunately, Markzware let the project die, I also stopped pushing it, although they were adopting IDML in several products, Markzware was unable to apply resources to exploit R3 into the development process. R3 was a library implemented using modern c++11 features, initialization templates, smart pointers, operator overrides.

The point of R3 was to provide a documented interface to data that described a generic publishing type document that could be used to

create Indesign, QuarkXpress, or whatever documents using their respective API's. Developers could write once the Host Conversion plugin application and then inherit any "Reader" that was r3 compatible.

R3, needed little documentation resources applied, Adobe already did that with IDML. This was a major benefit and time saver.

In my defense, I was not a lead, but 2 prior leads attempted the same kinda project of a common interface for Markzware to adopt but were unsuccessful also in getting Markzware to commit to their projects. Thus the name R3 (e.g. Revision 3). I was eventually laid off. The prior leads are no longer with the company either.

R3 was my original contribution to Markzware, besides just maintaining existing product. I developed it primarily on my own time over a christmas vacation.

01/2009 to 03/2020 Software Engineer Developer Fidelity Investments | Mechanicsville, VA,

Designed and Implemented Common libraries and and common User Interfaces through out the plugins (there were about 5 mac products in the beginning plus their Windows equivalents).

The legacy code dated back to the 90's using C Standards, minor cross platform design choices. I ported modules to windows from native mac OSX code. Typically a complete interface re-write for Windows requirements, no big deal. The plugins had minimal display interface requirements the porting was mostly any file i/o or windows differences in the Host Applications such as Indesign or QuarkXpress primarily driven by customer demand for the conversions from one Host to the other. It was a maintenance job with a little bit of creativity needed to implement the new features and solve build problems with new compilers and OS's deprecating old API's on a pretty fast schedule.

I am a familiar with MacOSx as well Windows 7 and Windows 10 with the latest compilers and legacy compilers/IDEs needed from time to time. I can read a manual and distill technical information on the Internet. Programming Language skills I acquire as needed. Linux is an old skill set of mine, Apache servers, IIS also are older skill sets. I admit I didn't use them much at Markzware. Coming up to speed shouldn't be a problem if needed.

I developed a Windows Installer to replace an InstallShield based installer. I used JavaScript and Windows html engine API (forgot technical name). That was a cool little project that I wrote the user interface in HTML and JavaScript. Worked great and we didn't need to pay the InstallShield fees. InstallShield was overkill. I overtly promoted this project.

01/2000 to 08/2008 Software Engineer Developer Fidelity Investments | Orland Park, IL,

Responsible for the Web Application framework used to interface with the client.

The framework was a homegrown multi-windowed interface to easily mash together various reports and processes created by data provided by the client on a realtime basis. The user of the Interface was the Application Developers at MsrTech.

The framework provided tools to report script errors and data alarms via email. The entire interface was self-documenting, table driven

configurations, programmable by non-programmers. It was designed to make my job obsolete or at the very least a lot easier from a maintenance point of view.

Development tools

1. Perl on the server side

2. Html and JavaScript on the client side
