With two summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REUs), as well as several projects at my own institution, I have a great deal of research experience, covering a broad range of astronomical objects. I have spent many nights on observing runs at Kitt Peak National Observatory, as well as at Baker, the local observatory at Missouri State University (MSU). I am familiar with several programming languages, including C++, IDL, Fortran, IRAF, and MATLAB. I communicated my research with both posters and oral presentations at local and national meetings, such as that of the 2012 American Astronomical Society (AAS) and the 2013 American Physical Society (APS). I have gained tutoring/teaching experience at the math table at MSU (see work history), as a lab assistant for Astronomy courses at MSU, and as a private physics tutor for a high school junior. To participate in some outreach activities, I have helped with a middle school science group and spoke to the Springfield Astronomy Club about my experience with visiting observatories and conducting research. My goal now is to put my experience to good use by continuing with graduate studies and contributing to the scientific community.

Used Interactive Data Language (IDL) to analyze data from the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI), one of three instruments on the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).
Authored a paper and gave an oral presentation communicating results at the conclusion of the program.
Lead tours of the telescopes and surrounding area for visitors.

Worked with one other student to develop a standard photometric system for red dwarf data.
Used FORTRAN to edit an extensive code previously written as part of the analysis.
Gained observation experience on the SARA 0.9-meter telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO).
Communicated results at the end of the summer with an oral presentation and a publication in JSARA, the journal for SARA.

Started with Dr. Robert Patterson the first year, using the technique of differential photometry to search for variability in yellow supergiants.
Worked with Dr. Andzrej Baran the following year, analyzing data from the Kepler spacecraft in an attempt to model an eclipsing binary star system with a strong reflection effect.
Analyzed data using Image Reduction and Analysis Facility (IRAF).
Began first observing experience with two telescopes at Baker, a local observatory owned by Missouri State University.
Communicated results at the end of both projects with a paper and oral presentation at the annual meeting of the NMSGC.
