OM is a creative solving problem program. It requires a lot of hands and creative thinking. The teachers are not allowed to help a lot. Teammates work together for a long period of time to solve the problem they have been given while adding creativeness to it and acting. Then you go compete against other teams.
Volunteer Activities:
Years 1 year
- Big Brother Big Sister program is a program to help students who are in poverty, show behavioral issues, or just need a friend. So a high school student becomes a “Big Brother” or “Big Sister” to this child. You meet with them once or twice a week. You talk to them, do fun activities, and help them with work if you need it.
- Special Olympics is an event that is hosted for special needs people. There are tons of games and events for them to compete in.
- The Senior Olympics is an event hosted for the seniors of our community. There is food and a competitive event for them to compete in. At the end of this event, there is an award ceremony.
- MDA: Raised over $45,000 during the 5 years, won the loudest group, won most team members. Description MDA is an association for people who have muscular dystrophy. Every year they hold an MDA walk. It is to raise awareness, raise money, and just a fun event for people with MD. Every year me and my family, school at the time, and friends would go for a walk. We would wear matching teaching shirts and help raise awareness and money.
Faith-Based Activities:
- CCYM is a group of high school kids all over North Carolina. We met every couple and we planned a church camp and then CCYM members ran and staffed the camp.
- Wilderness trail is something church groups do. It is a 5-day backpacking trip. Over the trip, you focus on bettering your relationship with God.
- The welcome table is something my church does once a week. We prepare a big meal and everyone is welcome. It is completely free and gives tons of people who may have a hard time feeding their family a place to eat.
- I taught bible school for two years. I would do fun activities and teach the gospel to the kids.
- Almost every Sunday I would get to church around 2 hours early to help with nursery. Parents drop their children off there before or during church and I would watch them and play with them.
- I am a member of my church's youth group. We meet once a week and talk and eat and do fun activities. We also do service projects for the community such as trash pickup, doing errands for the elderly members of our church, and run errands for those members who are homebound.
